Why I started Out The Door

I bought a car.

It took most of a week and half a dozen dealerships. At one of them I sat for six hours. I put down a deposit, signed the paperwork, and had the plates on the car — and then new fees appeared at signing. I walked out, and I left a review I meant every word of.

What surprised me afterward wasn’t what happened. It was how many people had a version of the same story. That experience isn’t the bad-luck outcome. It’s the normal one.

So I looked at brokers, assuming that’s where the answer was. It wasn’t. A lot of what I found was the same problem in a nicer suit — financing rates marked up before they reached the buyer, and money coming in from the dealership and the customer both. On the deals I looked at, that ran two to four thousand dollars above what the deal actually cost.

That’s why this exists. Two reasons, and they’re the same reason: tell buyers plainly what’s being done to them, and take the dealership out of their week entirely.
